The Vice President provided a recap and clarification of the Proxy Rules
for the AMM
Chapter Elections –
CW3R Al Price made a motion to postpone the Chapter elections until
after the Western Region election is completed at the AMM 2008. The
motion was seconded by CW3R Ron James. The motion passed. Chapter
elections are to be held at the November meeting.
CW3R Michael Turner made a motion that the Chapter purchase an
8” x 8” paver with the USAWOA logo and test for $600. The
motion was seconded by CW3R Al Price. The motion passed.CW3R

Fort Lowell-Apache Chapter
A motion was made by CW3R Al Price for the Chapter to purchase a
duplicate 8” x 8” paver for $50. The motion was seconded by
CW3R Gary Huggins. The motion passed.
- CW3R Ed Blankshen and his wife Leslie have volunteered to host
this year’s holiday party at their home. A tentative date of
Sunday, 14 December 2008 has been suggested. A motion was made by
CW5R Vincent Baiocchetti to hold the party at CW3R Ed and Leslie
Blankshen’s home on 14 December 2008 at 1400. The motion was
seconded by CW3R Al Price. The motion passed.
2008 Golf Tournament
- 4 Plaques were presented to businesses to show our appreciation
for their support of our Annual Golf Tournament since we
started with our first one in 2002. The companies are:
Mowery of Mama Louisa's Restaurant, Mr. Larry Durgin of Seville
Cleaners, Mr. A.C. "Spud" Sperduti of Suburban Motors, and Mr.
Frank Sapone of Don Mackey Cadillac.
plaque was given to SFC Mateo-Colon of the US Army Recruiting
office in Tucson, for his support and donations to this year's
Birth of the U.S.
Army Warrant Officer
- CW4R Harold Lindamood wants to include the Newsliner
article “Fort Monroe’s little-known history: Birthplace of the
U.S. Army Warrant Officer” (September 2008) in the Fort
Lowell-Apache History Book. CW3R Michael Turner will send CW5R
Vincent Baiocchetti a copy for inclusion in the history book.
Soldier Care Packages
– CW5R Vincent Baiocchetti has not received a reply from CW2 Craig
Dowdney concerning the distribution of a care package to members of
his deployed unit. A lively discussion ensued with the members
is the intent of the membership to support the concept of a quarterly
care package, to an individual for further distribution to other unit
members, and the Fort Lowell-Apache Chapter will pay the shipping
The Chapter must make a commitment to support the program for at
least one year.
The receiving unit should be an Arizona based unit
Need a POC to purchase and ship the package
A possible 50/50 style raffle to raise funds…
Chapter members match personal donations
A motion was made by CW3R Ron James to “provide a quarterly care
package, form member donations, with the Chapter paying shipping
costs. The recipients will be selected during the monthly
meeting preceding the shipment”. The motion was seconded by
CW3R Al Price. The motion passed.
CW3R Al Price will lead the first package, with shipment no
later than 15 November 2008. Members are urged to make
recommendations at the 10 November 2008 meeting for the
JROTC Drill Meet
- CW3R Ron James reminded everyone of the Annual JROTC Drill Meet at
Flowing Wells High School on 13 December 2008. Assistance is
required in the form of Judges, Scorers and Volunteers. Dress is
civilian clothes, preferably with the Fort Lowell-Apache Chapter
shirt. For judges, military uniform is required. Start time is
0600 and completion time is 1400.
- CW4R Harold Lindamood made a motion to establish a “calling
committee” to remind the regular members of the upcoming meetings.
The sequence of reminders should be: EMAIL – 15 and 7 days out,
CALLING – 3 days out. CW3R Ron James added that the President will
select a list of names and notify 3 or 4 members to call those
members on the list. The motion was seconded by CW3R Ron James.
The motion passed: AY = 6, NAY =1.
Lowell-Apache Golf Tournament
– the 2009 edition of the golf tournament will be held on Saturday,
13 June 2009 at the Omni Tucson National
Resort. The contract is for 88 golfers…

Chapter Member Proxy
- The secretary requested that the members present confirm or update
the current proxies. Completed.
Massing of the Colors
- CW2R John Curtis reminded the members of the Military Order of the
World Wars Massing of the Colors on 9 November 2008.

CW3R Ron James reminded everyone of the JROTC Drill Meet on 13
There being no further business, CW5R Vincent Baiocchetti made a motion
that the meeting be adjourned; seconded by CW4R Harold Lindamood and
passed by the members present at 1942 hours.
