Meeting Minutes –

 

14 December 2008

 

Meeting called to order at 1422 hours by President, CW2R John Curtis, with members saluting the flag during the Pledge of Allegiance. The President declared a quorum present.  The meeting was held at CW3R Ed and Leslie Blankshen residence.

 

Secretary’s Report: 

The minutes of the November 2008 meeting were presented previously to the members electronically. A motion was made by CW3R Art Schmid to accept the minutes as published and seconded by CW3R Ed Blankshen.  The motion passed.

A motion was made by CW3R Michael Turner to accept the Treasurer's Report, subject to audit, and seconded by CW3R Al Price. The motion passed.

  2. The Annual Fort Lowell-Apache golf tournament has a change in the fee structure for 2009.

Congratulations! To all thank you for leading your USAWOA Fort Lowell-Apache Chapter. The new officers were sworn in by CW3R Al Price. 

 

  1. Soldier Care Packages - CW3R Al Price has mailed the Soldier Care Packages to one of our members, CW2 Craig Dowdney and the 257th Transportation Co (HET) located in Kuwait.  Receipt of the packages has been acknowledged by Craig.  

 

  1. Soldier Relocation Project

 

    1. CW5R Vincent Baiocchetti presented 2 logos for discussion.  The member selected a combination of the logos, and requested that the words “Tucson, AZ” be added to the logo.

 

    1. CW5R Vincent Baiocchetti will attempt to find out how the logos are applied to the bricks; are they printed or sand blasted?  The method of application could make a difference in the composition of the logo.

 

    1. CW4 Harold Lindamood will bring samples of bricks used by the Masonic Lodge in Green Valley for demonstration.

 

  1. JROTC Drill Meet – The 3rd Annual Apache Drill Meet at Flowing Wells High School on 13 December 2008 was a resounding success.  A big THANK YOU to the Fort Lowell-Apache Chapter volunteers that supported the cadets and CW3R Ron James: CW5R Vincent Baiocchetti, CW4R Harold Lindamood, CW3R Al Price, CW3R Ed Blankshen and CW2R John Curtis.  Please look for the article in the Newsliner submitted by CW5R Vincent Baiocchetti and at the Fort Lowell-Apache Chapter website: http://www.usawoa-ftlowell-apache.org

 

"CW3R Al Price of the Ft. Lowell-Apache Chapter, Tucson, Arizona is shown presenting the overall winner of the Apache Drill Competition held in Tucson on December 13, 2008.  The Marine JROTC Team is from Tuba City High School which is located in the northeast corner of the state.  This is the 2nd year in a row that Tuba City has won the competition.

           

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

The drill competition is sponsored by the Flowing Wells High School JROTC and supported financially by the Chapter.  There were 23 JROTC teams from around the state competing in this all-day affair. The JROTC teams represent Army, Navy, Air Force, and Marines. The Judges were from the University of Arizona ROTC, all branches of the Armed Forces Recruiting Stations, Reserve and National Guard units.  The 2nd place award went to Greenway High School and the 3rd place award to Casa Grande High School. The winning team received the Geronimo sculpture which they keep for the year and then return it for the next competition.  They also received a crystal trophy which is theirs to keep."

 

  1. Holiday Party – The Christmas party hosted by CW3R Ed Blankshen and his wife Leslie was a great success.  The food was fantastic and the socializing was great.  Thank you to Ed and Leslie for a wonderful afternoon. 

 

 

New Business:

 

Due to the nature of the Christmas party, all new business is postponed until the next meeting.

There being no further business, CW3R Michael Turner made a motion that the meeting be adjourned; seconded by CW3R Bob Ozier and passed by the members present at 1445 hours. 

 

The next meeting of the Chapter will be held at 1800 hours on 12 January 2009 at Michelangelo Ristorante Italiano
