Meeting Minutes –


11 May 2009


Meeting called to order at 1801 hours by President, CW5R Vincent Baiocchetti leading the Pledge of Allegiance.  A Special prayer was said for our recently passed member, CW3R Bill Keller. The President declared a quorum present.  The meeting was held at Michelangelo Ristorante Italiano.


Secretary’s Report: 

The minutes of the April 2009 meeting were presented previously to the members electronically. A motion was made by CW3R Al Price to accept the minutes as published and seconded by CW3R Ed Blankschen. The motion passed.

A motion was made by CW3R Ed Blankschen to accept the Treasurer's Report, subject to audit, and seconded by CW3R Michael Turner. The expiring CD’s are to be reviewed by the Treasurer and renewed at his discretion. The motion passed.


President's Report:  CW5R Vincent Baiocchetti


  1. Special Chapter Meeting -The June 8, 2009 chapter meeting will be a joint meeting with the AAAA at Michelangelo Ristorante Italiano.


  1. Memorial Day Remembrance - The chapter has received an invitation from the President of the Arizona Silver Chapter to attend the Memorial Day Remembrance at the Southern Arizona Veterans Memorial Cemetery on Monday, May 25, 2009 in Sierra Vista.


  1. Historical Soldier Relocation Project Chapter members are invited to attend the re-internment of the soldier remains located during the site preparation for the Joint Courts Complex for Pima County and the City of Tucson in downtown Tucson.  The internment will take place at 1000 hours, Saturday, May 16, 2009 in Sierra Vista.   1. JROTC Program


    1. JROTC Scholarship Winners - Awards Ceremony was held Wednesday, 22 April 2009.  The Fort Lowell-Apache Chapter scholarship winners were announced and awarded: 

·                          C/Col Jeremy Dimmick,

·                          C/Col Nicholas Moore,

·                          C/LTC  Chelcee Veltre.

    1. The USAWOA Distinguished Service Award was awarded to 4 members of the Flowing Wells JROTC battalion at the JROTC Awards Ceremony on Wednesday, April 22, 2009:

·                          C/SFC Ryan Ahlersmeyer,

·                          C/COL Nicolas Moore

    1. Scholarship Funding - The checks for the 2009 Scholarships were presented.


  1. Institute of Heraldry - A written request was received asking if our JROTC Distinguished Service medal has been approved by the Institute of Heraldry.  The answer is no, and CW5R Vincent Baiocchetti is investigating to determine the correct documentation to get the medal certified.

Vice President's Report: CW2R John Curtis


1.    New Members: The Fort Lowell-Apache Chapter welcomes our new member: CW4 Roger Wilson to his first chapter meeting.



Unfinished Business:          


  1. Missing in America Project – A committee was formed consisting of CW2R John Curtis, CW3R Art Schmid and CW3R Al Price to coordinate the Fort Lowell-Apache Chapters’ action with the Arizona statewide committee. http://www.miap.us/. CW2R John Curtis has made contact with the group in Phoenix and they have a working program.  CW2R John Curtis is also contacting the National Organization for assistance with setting up the Southern Arizona program.


  1. Chapter Picnic – The Annual Chapter picnic will be held on 27 June 2009 at the home of CW3R Ron James. The chapter will provide hamburgers, hot dogs, cheese, rolls/buns and condiments.  Members are asked to bring chips, desserts, etc.  A strip map to will be provided to all Fort Lowell-Apache members.


  1. New Chapter Shirt Vendor – CW3R Al Price reported progress with the new shirt vendor.  The tentative costs are $18 for a lightweight shirt, $21 for a heaver weight shirt.  Pockets are available at extra cost.  CW3R Al Price and CW4R Harold Lindamood will get together with the vendor and bring back sample shirts.


  1. AMM 2009 Support – CW3R Michael Turner reports that the USAWOA nation BOD and other members are “stress testing” the e-store to be used for the AMM 2009 electronic registration. Several “issues” have been identified and are being worked.  The AMM 2009 website is not ready for public use at this time.


  1. Requests for Medal Donations – The chapter has received several requests to donate the USAWOA Distinguished Service Award to schools other than our supported schools.  CW3R Michael Turner made a motion to advise each of the requesting schools to review the program on our website, and review the instructions for obtaining the medal and accompanying certificate.  The motions was seconded by CW3R Al Price, and approved by the members present.


New Business:


  1. CW5R Vincent Baiocchetti requested that his expenses be paid by the chapter for his attendance at the AMM 2009 in Salt Lake City, UT. After a short discussion, the item was tabled pending further discussion.


Good of the Order: 


  1. Annual Golf Tournament - CW5R Vincent Baiocchetti provided a recap of the preparations for the 8th Annual Warrant Officer golf tournament to be held at the Tucson National Golf Resort on 13 June 2009.

    1.  A check was presented by CW3 Michael Turner for the Hole-In-One program with sponsorship being provided Shamrock Electro Optics for the 3rd consecutive year.


    1. CW5R Vincent Baiocchetti requested that members check with businesses that they regularly do business with to request Hole Sponsorships and other monetary or in-kind donations




There being no further business, CW3R Ron James made a motion that the meeting be adjourned; the motion was seconded by CW3R Al Price and passed by the members present at 2005 hours. 


The next meeting of the Chapter will be held at 1800 hours on 11 May 2009 at Michelangelo Ristorante at 420 W McGee Road, just west of Oracle Road. The meeting will be a joint meeting between the USAWOA and the AAAA.
