Good of the Order:

Guest Speaker - This evening’s guest speaker is Mr. Michael Tunstra, the retired Director of the Facilities Management, Pima County.  Michael talked about the history and recent events surrounding the excavation and archaeology for the Joint Courts Complex for Pima County and the City of Tucson in downtown Tucson.  The resulting “finds” have led to the creation of the new Historical Memorial Section at the Southern Arizona Veterans Memorial Cemetery (SAVMC) and the re-internment ceremony to be held on 16 May 2009.  There have been over 1100 civilian re-burials so far, with a large amount of remains still unidentified.  The 62 identified military remains will be re-interred on 16 May 2009.  Michael provided a very interesting recap of the planning and execution of the various digs that were required once human remains had been found at the site.  Please visit Joint Courts Complex Archaeology  to learn more about the very interesting events of this project.  Also, visit http://www.azdvs.gov/cemetery.htm to learn more about the cemetery and the re-interment project.
